The app shows the duration of Québec’s legal warranty of good working order next to your prices, in French and English.
It reads your catalog and finds the covered products for you, leaving out accessories and used items. The warranty is shown under the price on product pages and on collection and search pages. The official French notice with the table of durations is one click away.
From 5 October 2026, Québec’s Consumer Protection Act gives new appliances, TVs, computers, tablets, phones and game consoles a legal warranty of good working order of 3 to 6 years. Merchants must show its duration next to the advertised price (section 38.8 of the Act).
The rules come from sections 38.1 to 38.9 of the Act, added by S.Q. 2023, c. 21 (Bill 29). The durations are set in section 79.21 of the regulation adopted by Décret 1459-2025.
Covered goods are stoves and ranges, fridges, freezers, air conditioners, heat pumps, dishwashers, washers, dryers, TVs, desktop and laptop computers, tablets, phones and game consoles. New goods only; accessories are not covered.
This app helps you display the information. You remain responsible for which products are covered and for the accuracy of the information.
Open the app from Apps in your Shopify admin. A guided setup opens.
When the step opens, the app reads your product titles, types and tags. It suggests the Québec category and the legal warranty period for each covered product.
Click “Save as suggested (N products)”. To check first, open “Check or change the list”. If a suggestion is wrong, change its category. Choose “Not covered” to leave a product out. Then click “Save N changes”.
The app only suggests; you decide which products are covered. If no covered products are found and you do not sell these kinds of goods, you do not need to show this warranty.
Click “Turn on in theme”. Your theme editor opens with the “Québec legal warranty” app embed already switched on. Click Save at the top right, then come back to the app. The step is ticked automatically.
Optional, on the paid plan. Turn on “Check new products automatically”. When you create a new product, the app checks it and shows the warranty if it is covered.
On your store, a covered product now shows “Garantie légale de bon fonctionnement : N ans” below the price, with an “En savoir plus” link to the official notice.
Charges are added to your Shopify bill. You can change or cancel your plan at any time in the Plan card in the app.
Below the price on the product page of each covered product. It also appears next to prices on collection and search result pages. You can turn that off in the theme editor with “Also show next to prices on collection and search pages”. The “Show to” setting lets you show it to all shoppers or to shoppers in Canada only.
The “Language” setting in the theme editor has three options: “French first, then English (recommended)”, “Follow the storefront language” and “French only”. The official notice opens in French with English. The app’s own page follows your Shopify admin language (English, French or Japanese).
No. If you sell extended warranties, the separate written notice required for them (section 91.9 of the regulation) is not handled by this app.
To remove it from a product, choose “Not covered” for it in the list and save. To hide it everywhere, open your theme editor, go to App embeds, switch off “Québec legal warranty” and click Save.
The warranty stops showing on your store. The app never edits your theme files, so no code is left behind. The access token and settings we stored are deleted.
The app uses a Shopify theme app extension, so it does not change your theme code. It is an app embed that you switch on in the theme editor. If the warranty does not appear next to the price, email us with the name of your theme.
No. The app stores only your store domain, an access token from Shopify, your settings and the list of products marked as covered. It does not use cookies or tracking on your storefront. Read the full Privacy Policy.
Open the Plan card in the app. Click “Upgrade” to start the 14-day free trial. On the paid plan, click “Switch to yearly” or “Switch to monthly” to change how you pay. Click “Cancel subscription” to go back to the Free plan.
